Image from Hawaii, circa 2013: Bottle openers are for novices. (Yes, that is a sizable knife you are seeing).
On 10/10/1961 the world received an energetic spark in the form of John Nicholas Rogers. Born in Hawaii, the love of the ocean and nature was present in his life from day one – thanks Rogers Family! And as y’all know from being in his orbit and meeting his various circles of friends (even if only virtually) – he carried that love of nature with him at all times.
This year, I invite you to take some time this coming weekend to reconnect with nature in John’s honor. Go on a hike or nature walk, dip your toes in the lake or ocean, and/or howl at the full Hunter’s moon (if you’ve never done this – try it! It’s liberating and was a favorite of John’s!). It’s certain that John would be doing all of these things along with a motorcycle ride, eating some really good food, and sippin’ on a beer. Never one to waste a moment – we all should embrace that energy and live life to its fullest.
On brand, a snippet of lyrics from one of John’s favorites: Brandi Carlile’s “Hard Way Home”:
“I never did learn how to follow the rules,
I never was good at sleeping while the moon was full”
